Information

The Downtown Community Health Centre, located in Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside, is looking for Family Physicians to join their dynamic, fun, and passionate team in an exciting and diverse work environment! This centre provides full-service primary care to clients who reside in the community and have complex medical, mental health, and addictions issues and who struggle to access care in the fee-for-service system. This unique opportunity offers incoming physicians an Alternative Payment Plan (APP – Standard PMA Family Physician Service Contract with an hourly rate, and flexible work hours). The centre is open from 8:30am to 6:30pm on Mondays and Wednesday to Sunday, and from 8:30am to 8:30pm on Tuesdays, and shifts are typically 4 to 7.5 hours in length. There is shared on-call/weekend and stat coverage responsibility with the VCH DTES Network CHCs of 1-2 weeks per year, 1 statutory holiday per year, and 5 weekend days per year.

There is an opportunity to join as a locum, permanent physician, or NP. The team currently includes 9 FPs, two NPs, and other allied health. Allied health includes: 7 FTE Clerical support assistants; 19 FTE of nursing support; 4 FTE of social work services; 3 counsellors; 0.8 FTE of psychiatry services; 4 FTE of mental health nursing/social work staff; CLW/Outreach workers; an on-site Pharmacy; 1.0 FTE of HIV pharmacist support; 0.5 FTE of clinical pharmacy support; an on-site dietician and respiratory therapist; a financial liaison worker; a 1.0 FTE clinical resource nurse; embedded HIV programming and outreach program; on-site OAT program; Indigenous elder support; and Women’s night programs. Each physician also has access to their own exam room/office during their shift and would see an average of 10 to 20 patients per day. There is street parking available and easily accessible transit.

Vancouver’s DTES is a wonderful community filled with inspiring clients and care providers who are dedicated to providing high quality, low barrier care. This CHC enjoys the support of a talented, multidisciplinary team and strives to meet every individual where they’re at on their health care journey. Interest in inner city health is essential, as is a willingness to learn and grow. Their work is grounded in harm reduction, trauma-informed practice, and cultural safety.
