Job Specifics
Experienced, motivated MOA needed for permanent full-time position, 4 or 5 days per week, at a 6 doctor family doctor office in Kitsilano on the West side of Vancouver. The office is innovative and modern with a strong and cohesive team of doctors and staff. All regular MOA duties shared among the staff in a team environment. The candidate needs to have strong computer skills as our office uses the electronic medical record system OSCAR and most office processes are computerized. Strong interpersonal skills and fluency in English are also needed in dealing with the public. The job includes handling phone lines, reception, triage, scheduling on computer, clinical activities, lab procedure, referral booking, private billing, invoicing and collecting payments. Doctors do their own typing and enter their own MSP billing. Secure underground parking or one block from the 99 B line bus stop. Salary commensurate with experience. The position is currently at 4-5 shifts per week. Shifts are currently Monday-Friday, daytime. There is some flexibility in time of shifts. Medical office assistants learn a great deal about primary care and family practice. Some of our office staff have led primary care improvement projects. A number of our previous MOAs have gone on to study Medicine, Nursing or participate in other health care careers and found their clinical experience in our office a valuable step on that path.
Responsibilities of the role
- Answer Telephone
- Data entry tasks
- Educate patients about clinic policies
- EMR task management
- Ensuring daily paperwork complete
- Escort patient to exam room
- File & update medical charts
- Notify patients of availability of lab results
- Patient appointment scheduling and maintenance
- Process and follow up on Referrals
- Restock supplies in patient rooms
- Send/Respond to office mail and emails
- Setup/clean patient rooms
- Telephone prescriptions to a pharmacy
- Work in reception (greet patients)
- Collect and prepare laboratory specimens
- Manage patient complaints
- Measure and record health data and vital signs
- Prepare patient for examination
- Resolve issue with Referral process
- Set up for clinical procedures (Papa, Immunization, etc)
- Step in to support other function needed
- Give prevention reminders
- Triage patients over the phone
