Through network level events and member engagement, VDoFP and the CBS team identified a need to create a portfolio of programs specific to Vancouver clinic owners and leaders. The goal was to better understand the needs of this distinct group of members and, with their support, create programs that help strengthen primary care practices in our community.
The first step to establishing this portfolio of work was to engage the subject matter experts: Clinic Owners Advisory Group. This committee has been advising this portfolio of work to help meet the needs of clinic leaders across Vancouver.

One of the primary objectives that quickly emerged was the need to create a series of virtual and in-person events for clinic leaders. We have hosted multiple forums with the goal of holding space to network, discuss ideas, concerns, and shared solutions on clinic ownership and operation. Previous clinic owners’ forums have featured:
2021 Clinic Owners Forum: Identifying broadly the general themes that most owners find challenging
2022 Clinic Owners Forum: diving deeper into some of the primary concerns of clinic leaders at that time – Human resources support and managing staff
While fostering engagement is critical to the success of this subset of our membership, so is adequate education on business ownership. That is why our team, advised by our physician task force group, have embarked on developing comprehensive educational modules, in partnership with industry leaders, to equip clinic leaders with the essential skills, knowledge, and connections needed for successful clinic ownership and operation.
The Business Lounge is a series dedicated to bringing together clinic leaders across Vancouver to connect with peers. This is a space designed to foster peer engagement around clinic ownership, management, and financial sustainability. The sessions are informal, discussion-based gatherings, that brings together physicians and key clinic staff to share experiences, challenges, and provide one another with solutions. If you are interested in joining the conversation, email cbs@vancouverdivision.com to request being added to our mailing list.
This portfolio of work is rapidly evolving to cater to the needs of clinic leaders in our community.
