Palliative Pearls – Talk Dying To Me

Today I have the privilege of introducing our colleague, Dr. Lauren Daley. Lauren is an accomplished Palliative Medicine physician dedicated to compassionate care and education. After her Family Medicine residency, she completed a year of added competency in Palliative Care at UBC. She brings a wealth of expertise to her practice at St. Paul’s Hospital, Providence Healthcare and the broader Vancouver community. Lauren became a Fellow of the Royal College and is now the Program Director for the UBC Royal College Palliative Medicine Program .

Before pursuing a career in medicine, Lauren nurtured her love for storytelling and journalism by managing a radio station on weekends as a high schooler in her northern New Brunswick hometown. Her talent quickly garnered recognition, earning her an invitation to spend a transformative week in Ottawa at the Terry Fox Centre, engaging with esteemed panelists from CBC and CTV. Ultimately, she chose to follow the path of medical training, where she soon discovered Palliative Medicine—a specialty that seamlessly integrates the art of human connection with the science of healthcare. It was a profound realization: she had found her calling.

In 2019, Lauren channelled her passion for narrative medicine into her podcast and blog, Talk Dying to Me. This innovative platform transcends the science of medicine, offering meaningful conversations that explore life, death, and grief in a uniquely uplifting and humanizing way. Lauren shares stories with listeners that resonate deeply and underscore the transformative power of open dialogue about these universal yet often avoided topics. Through her podcast, Lauren continues to inspire empathy and understanding, enriching both her medical practice and the broader discourse on palliative care.
