Flu Vaccine Returns Program

Introduction

The Vancouver Division of Family Practice and Vancouver Coastal Health will once again work with MTS Logistics to provide complimentary pick up and returns of unused influenza vaccines from your clinics. This Division-funded assistance for eligible Vancouver primary care clinics will allow for the timely, free of charge, returns for unused vaccines from your clinic to VCH and onto the BCCDC. Read below for steps to return unused publicly funded vaccines from your clinic.

All clinics who request a complimentary vaccine pick-up through this program will be invited to complete a survey about their experience, and have the opportunity to enter a draw for one of several $25 gift cards.

Arrange pickup for your clinic:

Step 1 - Request A Returns Package to receive a vaccine returns package (consisting of an empty cardboard box, a returns address label, and return form) which MTS Logistics will deliver during your clinic’s business hours within 1 to 2 business days.

The last day to request a returns package is April 17. Step 2 - Once you receive the returns package, please place all unused / expired influenza vaccines (in its original packaging) inside the cardboard box, along with a copy of the completed vaccine return form. Please note:
  • New this year: Influenza vaccine returns can now be co-mingled with all other expired publicly funded vaccines.
  • Vaccine returns do not require refrigeration during transport (i.e., no water blankets, ice packs)
Step 3 -  The MTS driver return to your clinic in 1-2 business days for pick-up. Please ensure you have all vaccines you wish to return packaged and the returns form filled out prior to the arrival of the MTS driver. Reminders:
  • If you miss the returns request deadline: you can still drop off publicly funded vaccines at your local community health office at any time, or privately arrange for a courier service (like MTS) to provide pick-up services to your clinic.
  • Please return all unused publicly funded vaccines. Publicly funded vaccines should never be discarded as BCCDC receives a reimbursement percentage for returned product.
  • VCH recommends that clinics retain a small supply of unexpired influenza vaccines to have available for patients between now and the upcoming 2025/26 flu season. Once these vaccines have expired, please return them immediately so they do not get mixed up with the next season’s new supply. Expiry dates vary by product, but most expire in June/July.
Thank you for participating in this year's Influenza Vaccine Returns Program. We appreciate your partnership.   For any questions or concerns, please email projects@vancouverdivision.com
