Primary Care in Vancouver
Family doctors in Vancouver provide comprehensive, patient-centered health care, focusing on patient wellness and quality of life, as well as physical or mental health concerns.
Family doctors play an important role in Vancouver’s health care system, acting as the central hub for managing health or illness for patients and families, and providing referrals to specialists when needed.
Our family doctors work across many different areas of care, depending on the needs of the local community. Areas of care include:
- Family Medicine
- Maternity Care
- Senior & Frail Elder Care
Family doctors also work in a variety of practice settings including:
- Hospitalist Environments
- Community Health Centres (CHCs)
- Long Term Care Homes
- Walk-in Clinics
In a growing number of practices, team-based care is being provided, contributing medical expertise and leadership to practice teams that include other health care professionals.
Family doctors provide leadership in practices, communities, and in the health care system. Family doctors work with partners, including health authorities and other local health care providers, on initiatives that will improve access to health care services and foster better health for patients and communities.
Many opportunities exist to work in Vancouver and to participate in committee work with the Vancouver Division of Family Practice.
